Abstract |
|
Research in the field of environmental chemistry is limited due to the complexitiy of the samples. Especially the analysis of humic substances like humic or fulvic acids is challenging. Fulvic acids have been studied by 1H- and 13C-NMR, CHNO elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy as well as other analytical methods. However, these methods can only give an insight into the character of the mixture, but exact chemical formulae or series of compounds can not be identified. Due to the ultra high resolution and the very accurate mass detection of Fourier Transform ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometers the chemical formula of compounds ionized by different methods can be revealed. Complementary ionization techniques combined with high resolution mass spectrometry enable the identification of most of the elemental compositions. |
