Fourier transform-infrared (FTIR) portable sensors are
increasingly used for the identification of unknown chemical substances. The infrared spectrometer method ensures a high level of accuracy with no sample preparation and can analyse both powders and liquids, organic or inorganic materials.

The technology allows for small, portable and rugged instruments that provide extremely fast results. The Attenuated total reflection (ATR) technique eliminates the need for sample preparation. Subsequently there is zero logistical burden.
