Simultaneous Detection of Drugs and Explosives using Ion Mobility Spectrometry

Bruker have developed an instrument that can simultaneously identify Trace Drugs and Explosives. DE-tector uses a Twin IMS tube design; one for positive ions and one for negative ions fed by a common (single) ionisation chamber.

The principle maintains measurement sensitivity; ions migrate to either the positive tube or the negative tube. The sample input is not split and Ionisation is by means of a soft x-ray Bruker XPI source. Profiler Software changes the way the IMS spectrum is
compared & ‘CHIRP’ IMS operation improves the S:N ratio of measurement dropping the false alarm rate to almost zero. The rugged and portable instrument is easy to use with a clear touchscreen. It has a smart sample inlet with intuitive Indication and an integrated printer.
