PTM Discovery and Characterization

Post Translational Modifications (PTMs) are essential in defining proper protein function. E.g., phosphorylation is involved in cellular signaling processes and protein glycosylation can affect cellular recognition events.
The discovery, localization and detailed characterization of PTMs is therefore one of the great challenges in protein science and proteomics today, in which mass spectrometry plays an indispensable role.
