PETROLEOMICS

FTICR has been established as the technique of choice for petroleomics applications. Higher magnetic field strengths  have had a major impact on the performance of FTICR instruments, particularly in relation to resolving power

Performance – Resolution and Mass accuracy

A prerequisite for the analysis of crude oil is the ability to resolve complex mixtures in a mass spectrum. Typically resolutions of 300.000 and more are needed to unravel the complexity of petroleomic samples. In combination with the unrivalled mass accuray the APEXultra enables unambiguous assignment of molecular formulae.

Flexibility - Ionisation methods

For a comprehensive representation of petroleomic samples it is essential to use different ionization techniques such as electrospray ionization (ESI), atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (APCI) and atmospheric pressure photo ionization (APPI) in positive and negative polarity. The APEXultra provides fast and simple changeover for these ionization techniques.

Results - Data Processing
Data Analysis provides Smartformulatm functionality to automatically generate molecular formulae for all peaks of a spectrum. User definable parameters allow  searches  for specific compound classes.

Molecular parameters such as Kendrick Mass Defects (KMD), homologous series, Z-number, O/C-, N/C- and O/N are obtained concurrently.
